A sermon is an oration, lecture, or talk by a member of a religious institution or clergy. Sermons address a Biblical, theological, religious, or moral topic, usually expounding on a type of belief.

There are a few differences.

Sermons tend to be focused on religious educationLectures tend to be focused on scientific educationSermons use the preacher as a focal pointLectures try to focus on the information being providedSermons aim to convince the listener to change his or her beliefs to agree with the preacher.Lectures aim to provide the student with the information to allow their intellectual development in the discussed area.Sermons are not as open to questions, specifically one’s that require more clarification of the discussed topic.Lectures tend to be more open to questions about the discussed topic, but less open to question not related to the topic.

Hope this helps.
