Shadow:-

It is a dark area formed when an opaque object is subjected towards light at the opposite side of the light source.

An object, light source and a screen is required to form a shadow anywhere else. The light is must and the object is must. The screen is required to see the shadow formed. Hence, a shadow lies on the screen.

Example:-

When you stand out on the road in daytime, the sunlight hits you and your shadow is formed on the road opposite to the sun. The road acts as the screen here...

Answer:

A shadow is a dark (real image) area where light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. It occupies all of the three-dimensional volume behind an object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or a reverse projection of the object blocking the light.\
