The height of the tower is 100 m.

Explanation:

Correct statement:

a vertical stick 20 cm long casts a shadow 10 cm long on the ground. at the same time, a tower casts a shadow 50 m long on the ground. the height of the tower is ?

Solution:

  • In ΔABC & ΔADE
  • ∠BCA=∠DEA = 90°

[Each angle is at 90° to the ground]

∠BAC=∠DAE [common angle]

∠CBA=∠EDA [∵ the sum will cast light equal angles]

Hence, by AAA, ΔABC ∼ ΔADE

⇒ BC / CA =  DE/ EA

20 / 10 = DE/ 50

DE = 20 / 10 x 50

DE = 2 x 50

DE = 100 m

Thus, the height of the tower is 100 m.
