The definition of a linear equation is an algebraic equation in which each term has an exponent of one and the graphing of the equation results in a straight line. An example of linear equation is y=mx + b.
Formula :
The standard form for linear equations in two variables is Ax+By=C. For example, 2x+3y=5 is a linear equation in standard form. When an equation is given in this form, it's pretty easy to find both intercepts (x and y). This form is also very useful when solving systems of two linear equations.

A linear equation is defined as an equation where the greater power of the unknown is one. since x is on the left-handside of the equal sign ,we simply move 3 to the other side of the equal sign giving; x = 4-3 therefore x = 1 is the answer.
