A solenoid is a long coil of wire wrapped in many turns. When a current passes through it, it creates a nearly uniform magnetic field inside.Solenoids can convert electric current to mechanical action, and so are very commonly used as switches

a solenoid is a magnet made up of long insulated copper wire wrapped around a hollow cylinder.

characteristics of the magnetic field are:

1)magnetic field is strongest near the poles

2)magnetic field lines emerges from north pole and submerge to south pole

and all the characteristics of bar magnet

Note:you can find its polarity by clock face rule
