What is a solute,solvent ,saturated solution,unsaturated solution
Answers
The liquid in which solvent is dissolved to form a solution is known as solvent.
The solution in which no more solute can be dissolved is known as saturated solution.
The solution in which no more solute can be dissolved is known as unsaturated solution.
- Solute
- Solvent
- Saturated solution
- Unsaturated solution.

SOLUTION
A solution is homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. There are various examples of solutions, even we can see solutions around us also. Solutions are not the mixture in which solvent is liquid but it also consists of mixtures such as alloys which is solid-solid mixture and air which is a mixture of gas-gas.
Some of examples of solutions are :-
- Sugar solution
- Solution of iodine and alcohol
- Soda water and many more areated drinks.
There are some properties of solution :-
- It is an homogeneous mixture.
- This solution doesn't show tyndall effect
- Particles of solution is stable.
SOLUTE
In a solution a component which is being dissolved into another component (solvent) and it is present in lesser quantity than solvent. Example:- In a sugar solution sugar is solute.
SOLVENT
In a solution a component which dissolves other substance in it is called as a solvent. Usually, quantity of a solvent is more than quantity of solute. Example:- In a sugar solution water is the solvent.
SATURATED SOLUTION
It is a type of solution in which no more solute can be dissolved in the solvent at a given temparature or solvent can't dissolve more solute in given temparature. For instance :- Suppose at 20°C, 25g of sugar can be dissolved in the water, so if we add 25g then the sugar solution is satuarated but it's capacity of dissolving increases if temparature is increased.
UNSATURATED SOLUTION
It is a type of solution in which more solute can be dissolved in the solvent at a given temparature or solvent can dissolve more solute in given temparature. For instance :- Suppose at 20° C, 25g of sugar can be dissolved in the water, so if we add less than 25g then the sugar solution is unsatuarated means we can add more solute till it becomes saturated at particular tempature.
