Answer:

Solutions are a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. It has homogeneity at the particle level. Usually, people think of it as some liquid with either a solid or a liquid or a gas dissolved in it. However, this is not entirely true. We can also have solid solutions like alloys.

The two components of a solution are the solvent and the solute.

 \large \underline \bold{Solutions}

The solute dissolves in the solvent to form a solution. Hence, a solution is a uniform mixture of a solute in a solvent. It is a homogeneous mixture.

 \large \underline \bold{Components \: of \: solution}

The solution comprises the following components:

1. Solute: The substance that dissolves in the solvent is called solute. It is the smaller component in a solution.

2. Solvent: The substance in which the solute dissolves is called the solvent. It is the larger components of a solution.

Taking the example of sugar and water solution, the sugar is the solute and the water is solvent.

Examples of solutions:

  • Soda: carbon dioxide is solute, water is solvent.
  • Tincture: iodine is solute, alcohol is solvent.
  • Glucose solution: glucose is solute, water is solvent.

Types of solutions:

  • Unsaturated solutions
  • Saturated solutions
  • Supersaturated solutions
