The presence of septum in the heart does not allow the ‘mixing of oxygen-rich’ and ‘carbon dioxide-rich bloods’.

Explanation:

  • As blood is carried into the heart from different ‘parts of the body’, this deoxygenated blood is rich in carbon dioxide.
  • This blood is carried into the ‘lungs for oxygenation’. The oxygenated blood is then pumped to the ‘left atrium’ and carried for systemic circulation.
  • The septum which is made of muscles, separates the two types of blood.
  • The valves in each of the ‘atrium and ventricle’ allows the blood to be pumped.
