Stars can be considered the building blocks for a galaxy. Stars are massive balls of burning gases. These are huge celestial bodies which are extremely hot and emit light of their own. They are mainly made up of hydrogen and helium.

The sun is also a star. The sun is the star which is nearest to the earth. The sun looks much bigger and brighter because it is much nearest to us than any other star. Though many other stars are bigger and brighter than the sun, but they look small and faint. This is because they are very far away from earth. We can see the stars only at night. Though the stars are present in the sky even during the daytime, but we cannot see them during the daytime because of the bright light of the sun. The stars appear to move from east to west because of the rotation of Earth on its axis from west to east. The sun also appears to rise from east and set in west due to the rotation of the earth about its axis from west to east.

There is a star, which appears to be stationary when viewed from the surface of the earth. This stationary star is called Pole Star (Dhruv Tara). The Pole Star is situated exactly above the axis of rotation of the earth towards its North Pole.
