Any ballistic (bobbing , lunging, bouncing) type of stretching should be avoided . It is asure-fire way to damage muscles or tendors. safe stretching is when muscles are slowly placed in a stretch and then held in that position for 10-15 seconds.

Well, as a dancer, I just know to keep doing splits. Hold it for a while, then stop. If you take ballet, it helps keep you limber, especially stretching on the barre. One stretch in particular is when you stand facing the bar and rest one leg on it. With that leg, slide down the barre as far as you can, without moving the other leg. Do that with both legs. It's like doing a split standing up. Heel stretches help a lot too. To do them, standing parallel to the bar, you put one hand on the barre(for support), and then take your other hand and grab that outside facing heel (as in what foot is farther from the barre), and bring that leg as close up to your side as you can, avoiding bending the leg that's up.
