A Summary is a brief restatement of the contents of an essay, chapter, book, or any other written work.
In most cases the summary is asked of a given passage.

1). Read the passage to identify the writer's purpose.
2). Identify the main ideas and analyse the structure.
3). Outline the passage, underlining the main idea/thought.
4) Write one-sentence summaries for each stage of thought. Use your own words If you use the author's words, enclose them within quotes.
5). Write first draft 4 to 5 words in each line for ease in counting.
6). Eliminate repetitions, details, and personal opinions.
7). Insert transitional expressions and phrases to avoid choppiness.
8). Check against the origional for completeness, accuracy, and balance.
9). Proofread for grammatical errors.
10). Write out the final copy.
》To summarise we must keep in mind the following.
☆Do's
• Concentrate on the main ideas
•Be objective. The summary should reflect the content of the original passage only.
•It should be brief, complete, accurate, objective, and in your own words.
☆Don'ts
•Do not plagiarise. Use your own words, or enclose the origional words within quotes.
•Do not include your own ideas on the topic.
•Do not leave out important parts to make the summary short.
