HEARTS AND HAND THEME OF THE STORY

Ο The main theme of the story was compassion and disguise.

Ο The actual Marshall was thought to be the criminal and Mr. Easton who was the actual criminal was though to be the Marshall.

Ο This shows that outward appearances are always decepted.

Ο The plot of the story develops a great atmosphere in which the reader thinks Mr. Easton to be a Marshall .

Ο However at the end of the story , the actual truth of the story is revealed.

Ο The story hence ended with a surprise.

Ο This surprise was achieved by the plot of the story which creates great interest in the reader and ultimately the opposite of what is expected occurs.

Ο This story also teaches us compassion towards others.

Ο When the Marshall saw that Mr. Easton was embarrassed in front of Miss Fairchild , he showed great empathy and compassion.

Ο He saved Mr. Easton by stating himself a criminal.

Ο The plot thus develops these qualities and the readers are pleased to see the qualities of the real Marshall.
