What is a transformer? How does it work? Give three reasons for energy
losses in a transformer. A step-down ideal transformer converts 240 V a.c.
to 12 V a.c. Find the ratio of (a) number of turns in primary to secondary
coil and (b) currents in primary to secondary coil.

Answer:

Transformer -

A transformer is an electrical apparatus designed to convert alternating current from one voltage to another.

How does it works?

it can be designed to "step up" or "step down" voltages and works on the magnetic induction principle. ... When voltage is introduced to one coil, called the primary, it magnetizes the iron core.
