All the water absorbed by plant is not utilised by them. The excess water releases in the form of water vapour through the stomata of leaves during transpiration. This evaporation of water creates a suction pull.

This is called transpirational pull.

it is the force which aids in drawing the water upwards from the root towards the leaves..this results in the upward pull of water from the root to mesophyll cells by generating a negative pressure in xylem vessels to pull the water from the soil.this pull results from the evaporation or excretion of water from the surface of the cells in leaves
