A trophic level is a particular step or position within a food chain, food web or ecological pyramid where a group of organisms exist.

Alternatively, it can also be referred to a group of organisms that are present at a similar level in a food chain or web.

* Organisms present at the same level in an ecological pyramid is said to have a common mode of feeding.

* The first trophic level is composed of the primary producers( plants).

* The second level has the primary consumers( heterotrophs).

* Then we have the secondary consumers and so on as we move to the higher trophic levels in an ecological pyramid.
