Virtual images simply means those images that cannot be obtained on a screen.

A very simple example is the plane mirror. Keep a candle and a screen in front of it. Now, if you keep a plane mirror the image of the candle will not be formed on the screen. This is because they produce virtual images. Here, the image will be formed virtually behind the mirror.

BUT, if you keep a concave mirror, you can see the image on the screen. Because they produce a real image.

➛The image which cannot be taken on a screen is called virtual image. When some object is placed very close to the concave mirror we don’t get any image on the white screen placed behind the mirror. Such image is called virtual image.
