Abscisic acid is a growth inhibitor plant hormone that causes dormancy of seeds, wilting of leaves, closing of stomata and loss of proteins and chlorophyll. It is also known as a stress hormone as it induces various responses in plant against stress condition.

it is a slightly acidic growth hormone that functions as a growth inhibitors by counteracting with other mentioned growth hormones , i.e., auxins , gibberellin and cytokinin.

this , like other PGR , abscisic acid also has a wide range of effect on growth and development of plant.

as it's production is stimulated under stress ( unfavorable conditions such as drought, water lodging , excessive temperature , etc.) . so it is known as stress hormones. . it acts antagonistically to gibberellin acid.
