Explanation:

Refractive index is a physical quantity which actually tells us by how much extent a light gets bends or medium bends the light when it travel through it...

When a light travel from one transparent medium to another , it changes its direction or bends...The measurement of this bending of light is done in terms of refractive index...

Remember Medium ( transperant ) always have refractive index which is nothing just a number...We find this number by taking the ratio of velocities of light in one medium to another...

Refractive index of a medium 1 with respect to medium 2

= velocity of light in medium 2 / velocity of light in medium 1

Note : greater is the value of refractive index , medium will bend more when it enter the same medium...
