Answer :
Absorption Spectrum -
- It is observed when the white light is passed through a solution or vapour.
- The solution or vapour is said to be of a chemical substance.
- The results obtained is a continuous spectrum with some dark bands in between.
- These dark bands are the result of absorption of light when it was passed through the chemical substance.
- According to the nature of the element, the light of certain wavelengths are absorbed.
- Further, the dark bands were found to be at the same place where coloured bands appeared when the light was emitted. (In emission spectra)
- This spectrum is discontinuous.
- The dark bands make it discontinuous or else it is a continuous spectrum.
