Here is your answer friend...

Acceleration. Acceleration is the rate at which velocity (speed) is changing. If an object is moving with a constant velocity, then its acceleration is zero, since the velocity never changes. ... So in that one second, the speed increased by 2 mph...

Hope it would be helpful to you...

Answer:

the rate of change of velocity is called acceleration.

let initial velocity is 'u' and after 't' time is passed the velocity of object becomes 'v'

so the acceleration of the body is given by

a=v-u/t

let velocity of object is function of time i.e.

v=f(t)

then acceleration of object is

a=d(v)/dt or

a=d(f(t))/dt

Explanation:

there is a simple explanation of acceleration , let you assume you start moving with a bicycle so your initial velocity (speed) is zero. After starting your motion and after 10 sec is passed let your velocity becomes 5m/sec(quite fast huh) then by formula acceleration of object becomes 0.5m/sec^2.

let after this instant the speed starts decreasing and becomes zero after 10 seconds then acceleration becomes -0.5m/sec^2 this acceleration is also called retardation. So in this way we calculate acceleration of a body.
