what is acid rain....
Answers
Answer:
acid rain is the rain when the polluted or chemical gas which is let out by industries or by burning plastic get mixed with air and forms cloud when it rains the pH value will be acified hence it is called acid rain
Burning of fossil fuels besides other things adds sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere. When air is polluted by at least one of these gases in large amounts, it causes acid rain. Sulphur dioxide reacts with water and produces sulphuric acid. Similarly, nitrogen oxide reacts with water and produces nitric acid. Both these acids are strong acids. Therefore, they are highly corrosive. These harmful gases are soluble in water. They mix with the water droplets in the atmosphere and fall down on the earth as acid rains. Acid rain corrodes stone structures and buildings, damages crops and forests. It makes lakes and streams acidic and unsuitable for aquatic plants, fish and other animals. Acid rain causes great damage to living and non-living things. Acid reen can affect large areas. Wind can carry air containing Sulphur and nitrogen oxides to far away places. For example the southern parts of Norway do not have any large industries still most of its lake have turned acidic because of acid rain.
