Acid rain happens because of the presence of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur in the atmosphere. These gases react with water vapours present in the atmosphere and form sulphuric and nutric acids. Then these acids mix with rain water and make it acidic ,which falls down as rain or snow.

Acid rain can be very harmful for living beings. Moreover,acid rain can also cause damage non-living things like buildings and monuments. Acid rain corrodes the marble of the monuments. This phenomenon is called marble cancer.
