The fossil fuels like coal and petroleum contain some amount of nitrogen and sulphur. When these fuels are burnt nitrogen and sulphur too are burnt. This produces various oxides of sulphur and nitrogen. When rain comes these oxides mix with rain and fall down on the earth as acid rain.

Acid rains are the rains that fall on earth and are acidic in nature.

When the Nitrates and sulphates released from factories and industries are released up
in the atmosphere, they combines with moisture present in clouds and falls on Earth as Acidic rains.
