Most basic explanation would be :

Any material with pH less than 7.

They react with Bases of Equal magnitude for complete neutralisation and forms Respective Salt and Water as Bi products.

Eg : HCl (Acid) + NaOH (Base) -----> NaCl (Table salt) + H2O

A little advanced would be :

Any substance that can donate proton.

Or a Lewis acid is :

Any substance that accept an electron pair.
