                             Action of Zn, HCL on Ethyl Iodide

  • When ethyl iodide is treated with Zn- Cu couple in the presence of ethyl alcohol to produce ethane.
  • In this chemical reaction ethyl iodide reduced to ethane along with formed iodides as a by-products.
  • From the above reaction, iodine is replaced by the zinc or copper elements to form copper iodide and zinc iodide as a by-products.
