When a chemical reaction Takes place, some energy is required to break the bond between the molecules of the reactant.this is called activation energy.i think the catalyst improve the rate of chemical reaction

The min. extra amount of energy absorbed by the reactant molecules so that their energy barrier becomes equal tp threshold energy is called activation energy . The catalyst provides an alternate pathway reducing the energy between the reactants and products and hence lowering the potential energy barrier. Lower the activation energy faster will be the energy.
