In biology, the active site is the region of an enzyme where substrate molecules bind and undergo a chemical reaction. The active siteconsists of residues that form temporary bonds with the substrate (binding site) and residues that catalyse a reaction of that substrate (catalytic site).

Enzymes like lactase are block like globular protein with pockets . These pockets contain the active sites , which is the are of an enzyme where the substrate binds and the chemical reaction takes place. In the active sites , amoino acids of the enzyme protein will bind to the substrate.
