active transport uses energy against a potential gradient .Active transport is carried out by membrane protein . this pumps transport substance lower to higher concentration

Active transport is the transfer of a substance (salt or ion) from its lower concentration to higher concentration (opposite to what happens in diffusion), using the energy of the cell, through a living cell membrane. This process happens in the direction opposite to that of diffusion.
