An addition reaction, in organic chemistry, is in its simplest terms an organic reaction where two or more molecules combine to form a larger one.

Hydrogenation is an addition reaction . In hydrogenation the organic compound is treated with dihydrogen in the presence of catalyst like nickel, platinum or palladium and this gives the product in the form of simple saturated hydrocarbon i.e alkanes by addition of one hydrogen to the reactant unsaturated hydrocarbon.

CH2=CH2 +H2 →CH3-CH3 ,in the presence of catalyst Ni,Pd /Pt
