The additive inverse of 2/5 is - 2/5

Given :

The number 2/5

To find :

The additive inverse of 2/5

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Define additive inverse of a number

We know that 0 is the additive identity

Let N be any number and M be the additive inverse of N

So by the property of additive inverse

N + M = 0 = M + N

More precisely for any given number the additive inverse is the number that when added to the given number will result zero

So from above we can conclude that additive inverse of N is - N

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the additive inverse of 2/5

Here the given number is 2/5

Let x be the required additive inverse

So by the property of additive inverse

x + 2/5 = 0

⇒ x = - 2/5

Hence the additive inverse of 2/5 is - 2/5
