if no heat can flow from system to surrounding or vice versa is called adiabatic process.

In compressor theory , the terms adiabatic and isentropic are used interchangeably. for an ideal gas, an adiabatic process is a reversible process .

q = 0 but ∆T is not equal to 0

Adiabatic process ;

Adiabatic process :

In adiabatic process the total heat of the system remains constant.

change in heat (dq) = 0

↪Adiabatic process can be either reversible or irreversible.

work done in adiabatic process

for adiabatic process, Q= 0

first law of thermodynamics,

∆ E = Q+ W

∆E =0+ W

⇨ ∆ E = W

work done on system equals to the change in internal energy.

Adiabatic process equation ;

pv {}^{ \gamma }  = constant

Where:

  1. P is the pressure of the system
  2. V is the volume of the system
  3. the ratio of heat capacity at constant pressure Cp to heat capacity at constant volume Cv
