ADP stands for Adenosine Diphosphate/Adenosine pyrophosphate. It is associated with energy flow/ respiration in living beings.

ADP contains the following structural components:

1. Sugar backbone( ribose sugar)

2.Nucleotide base- Adenine- attached to the 1'-C of the ribose sugar.

3. Two phosphate groups- these are attached to the 5'- C atom of the ribose sugar.

This is released as a by-product during the hydrolysis of ATP- Adenosine triphosphate. Also ATP can be synthesized from ADP by the process of phosphorylation.
