• It is ectomesodermal in origin.
• It has two parts

1. Cortex
2. And Medulla

Cortex has three parts

a.) Zona glomerulosa

• It is the outer part of cotex.
• It is 10-15% part of cortex.
• It secretes mineralocorticoids / aldosterone.
• Spherical shaped cells.

b.) Zona fasciculata

• It is the middle part of cortex.
• It is 50-60% part of cortex.
• It secretes gluco-corticoides / cortisol.
• Spindle type or long cell is present.

c.) Zona reticularis

• It is the inner part of cortex.
• It is 5-10% of cortex.
• It secretes sexocorticoides.
• Network of cells, highly branched.

Adrenal medulla secretes adrenaline which is also called as epinephrine and noradrenaline. Adrenal cortex secretes many hormones but best-known hormone is cortisone which suppresses inflammation.
