ADRENAL GLAND
- Adrenal gland is also called suprarenal gland.
- 4 to 6 gram in weight.
- It is ectomesodermal in origin.
- It has two parts
- Cortex
- And Medulla
Cortex has three parts
a.) Zona glomerulosa
- It is the outer part of cotex.
- It is 10-15% part of cortex.
- It secretes mineralocorticoids / aldosterone.
- Spherical shaped cells.
b.) Zona fasciculata
- It is the middle part of cortex.
- It is 50-60% part of cortex.
- It secretes gluco-corticoides / cortisol.
- Spindle type or long cell is present.
c.) Zona reticularis
- It is the inner part of cortex.
- It is 5-10% of cortex.
- It secretes sexocorticoides.
- Network of cells, highly branched.

The adrenal glands are like caps above the Kidneys. each adrenal gland consists of two parts. they are Central medula and peripheral cortex.
Adrenal medulla secretes adrenaline which is also called as epinephrine and noradrenaline. Adrenal cortex secretes many hormones but best-known hormone is cortisone which suppresses inflammation.
