The mode of arrangement of sepals or petals in floral bud with respect to the other members of the same whorl is known as Aestivation.

Aestivation is the arrangement especially in flowering plants where the accessory flowering organs are in relation to one or the other floral bud (the starting of a flower), most often lyrics the sepals and petals are organised.
Classes of aestivation include:
- imbricate – overlapping.
- crumpled.
- decussate.
- induplicate – folded inwards.
- open – petals or sepals do not overlap or even touch each other.
- reduplicate – folded outwards.
- valvate – margins of adjacent petals or sepals touch each other without overlapping.
