Hey..
In Agarose gel electeophoresis, electric field is applied on a medium which contains DNA(with varying lengths).
Agarose gel electroporesis finds its use in many clinical techniques like rDNA technique, DNA finger printing etc.
the DNA used in agarose gel electeophoresis is obtained by Action of restriction endonucleses like EcoR1 etc.
This technique is used to separate The DNA on basis of length.
let us see how this happens..
-you might be knowing that DNA is negatively charged.
-DNA is filled in wells of phoresis machine and then electric field is applied..The DNA moves towards +vely charged electrode.
-The DNA with smaller length moves more and the DNA with more length moves less distance.
-then, by help of radiography techique,DNA can be observed on that machine and Desired length of DNA can be choosen.
Refer to image attached.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
