Definition

AIDS is very harmful and incurable disease and it caused by a type of retro virus named as HIV. The full form of HIV is Human immune virus and the full form of AIDS is acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome.

Causes

The HIV infection is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Symptoms

There are 3 major symptoms out of which if 2 are present then one is a suspected case of HIV+:

More than one month of fever

2. More than one month of diarrhea

3. 2 out if 3 sites of lymphadenopathy i.e. cervical (over the neck region) , axillary (armpit area) and the inguinal region (groin area). Lymphadenopathy is a conditon where there are swollen lymph nodes felt like oval to round swellings at the above mentioned areas.

Precautions

The preventive measures that can be taken for hiv include :

  1. going for safe sexual practices , avoiding polygamy
  2. Usage of disposable syringes for injections
  3. Avoiding injectable drug abuse.
  4. Usage of barrier contraceptives like condom .
  5. For nursing, paramedics and doctors , Take universal precaution while dealing with patients infected with hiv
  6. Avoiding contact with blood .
  7. Avoiding shaving at salons.
  8. Etc
