Food storing tissue of a seed is called an endosperm. In flowering plants it is produced as a result of double fertilisation process. In most monocotyledenous seeds and dicotyledenous seeds, the food reserve remains in the endosperm. They are called as endospermic or "albuminous seeds", such as, cereals, caster, bean, coconuts, rubber, etc. However, the majority of dicotyledenous seeds, such as, pea, gram, bean, mustard, groundnut, etc. and some monocotyledenous seeds, such as, orchids, sagittaria, etc. the endosperm is consumed during seed development and the food is stored into cotyledons and other regions of the seeds. They are called as exalbuminous seeds or nonendospermic.
