Remember these things:-
- When letters of alphabet represent number, they are called Literal Number's
- The word "ALGEBRA" is derived from the title of the book , "ALGEBAR W" al-almugatalah" written by an Arab mathematician, Mohammed Ben Musa..
- Indian mathematician, "ARYABHATTA" is said to have introduced Algebra in India..
- The first person to develop algebric method of problem solving was the French mathematician, "Francois Viete". He's also called the "Father of Algebra".
- In a literal number 'a', base is 'a' and power is 1 because a = a¹
Remember:-
(2x)³ = 2x × 2x × 2x
2x³ = 2 × x × x × x
- A quantity Which doesn't change it's value is called a Constant
- A quantity which changes value is called Variable..
- The coefficient of x in x is 1 because x = 1 × x
- The coefficient of x in - x is - 1 × x
- A combination of number's, literal numbers, literal numbers and fundamental operations is called an Algebraic Expression..
- Parts of an Algebraic Expression separated by the symbols (+) and (-) are called the Terms of algebric expression..
- Terms having the same variables are called Like Terms
- Terms having different variables are called Unlike terms..
- One term is called:- Monomial
- Ex= 5x
- Two term is called:- Binomial
- Ex = 6y + 7q
- Three term is called:- Trinomial
- Ex = 5x²y - 2a + 6y
- Four terms is called:- Quadrinomial
- 4x²y - 2x²y + 3xy - 8q
- Many terms is called:- Polynomial
- Like terms can be added
- Unlike terms cannot be added
- Only like terms can be subtracted
- Unlike terms cannot be subtracted
- Literal represent numbers
