amphoteric nature of a compound means that it can act as both-acid and base. many metals such as copper, zinc, tin, lead, aluminium, and beryllium form amphoteric oxides or hydroxides.

nimalmanoj: can u plzz tell what is buffer solution
swathika23: it is a solution which has the ability to resist the hydrogen ion concentration when an acid or a base is added.it is mostly the mixture of a weak acid and is a aqueous solution. hope it helps please mark as brainliest!!!
nimalmanoj: thq sm
swathika23: what is the meaning of thq sm
rokeez: thanku somuch haha
rokeez: The prefix of the word 'amphoteric' is derived from a Greek prefix amphi-, which means both. In chemistry, anamphoteric substance is a substance that has the ability to act either as an acid or a base. Remember that acids donate protons (or accept electron pairs), and bases accept protons.

The compounds which can behave as an acid as well as an base and react with base and an acid are called as amphoteric compounds
------------------------------------------------
example :-
Aluminium oxide (Al2O3)
Zinc oxide (ZnO)
water (H20) etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
example of a amphoteric reaction
----------------------------------
Aluminium oxide (Al2O3)as a base
-------------------
Al2O3 + 6 HCl ------> 2 AlCl3 + 3 H2O
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) as an acid
----------------
Al2O3 + 2 NaOH + H2O --------> 2 NaAl(OH)4
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
