The acid are those substance which produces H+ ions in their aqueous solution is known as acid.

ex:- H2SO4, HNO3, H3PO4, HCL etc.

Acids convert blue lithmus in to red lithmus .

Properties of Acids:-

  • Acids are sour in taste.

  • Acids are corrosive in nature.

  • Acids react with metal to give metal salt and hydrogen gas.

  • Acids react with bases to give salt and water.
  • Their ph value is less than 7.

The Bases are those substance which give hydroxyl ions in their aqueous solution.

ex:- NaOH, Ca(OH)2, NH4(OH) etc.

They convert red lithmus in to blue lithmus.

Properties of bases :-

  • They are soapy in touch.
  • They are bitter in taste.
  • They are also corrosive in nature.
  • They react with metal to give salt.
  • They react with acid to give salt and water.
  • Their ph value is greater than 7

Salts :- The salt is the neutral substance formed as a result of interaction between acid and base by neutralization reaction is called salt.

Ex:- NaCl, NaSO4, KCl, KNO3.

  • They are neutral in nature.
  • Their ph value is 7.

An acid is any hydrogen containing substance that is capable of donating a proton ( hydrogen ion ) to another substance .

example - sulphuric acid ( H2SO4 ) , acetic acid ( CH3COOH )

A base is a molecule or ion able to accept a hydrogen ion from an acid .

example - calcium hydroxide [ Ca(OH)2 ] , Sodium hydroxide ( Naoh ) ...
