Answer:

Aerobic respiration is the process of producing cellular energy involving oxygen. Cells break down food in the mitochondria in a long, multistep process that produces roughly 36 ATP. The first step in is glycolysis, the second is the citric acid cycle and the third is the electron transport system.

Anaerobic respiration can simply be described as the type of respiration which occurs in the absence of oxygen.

  • Anaerobic respiration is a metabolic process in which energy is made without the usage of oxygen,
  • In the first step of anaerobic respiration, the glucose yields two pyruvate molecules as it undergoes the process of glycolysis. As a result of glycolysis, 2 molecules of ATP are made.
  • In the second step, the pyruvate is reduced to lactic acid by NADH, which will yield NAD+. The NAD+ molecules are recycled so that the process of anaerobic respiration can be repeated.
