Its a matter of scale. Urban design refers to designing how a large area functions for the people inhabiting it. For example: Imagine you were to design a new city. What would you think about? -
How the city is laid out, where the city centre is, how the road/public transport network work. These are just some of the questions you would have to answer.
On the other hand, Architecture is about designing a building (It could be a really huge building). It's about understanding how that building fits into it's surrounding, who the users are and so forth.
