An atom is the smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that constitutes a chemical element. Every solid, liquid, gas, and plasma is composed of neutral or ionized atoms.

Characteristics of atom :-

Atoms are the smallest fraction of an element that can exist, and still show the characteristics of the element. Atoms themselves are composed essentially of electrons (1 negative charge), protons (1 positive charge), and neutrons (no charge).

Answer:

An atom is a particle of matter that uniquely defines achemical element.

CHARACTERISTICS OF ATOM

1....Atoms consist of three basic particles: protons, electrons, and neutrons.
