Definition Ecosystem:

• An ecosystem is a self-contained area composed of all different organisms living in it, interacting with each other, as well as interacting with other physical conditions i.e. sunlight, air, water, climatic factors etc. prevailing in that area.
• The term ecosystem is derived from the Greek word “Oikos” which means “house”, a dwelling place with  inhabitants living together and interacting with each other and also with their physical environment in some definite  ways. This interaction is primarily for food i.e. “to eat” and “to be eaten”

Components of ecosystem are classified as:

1. Biotic Components:

• Producers

• Consumers ⇒ Primary Consumers, Secondary Consumers, Tertiary Consumers.

• Decomposers

    2. Abiotic Components:

• Air
• Water
