a fuse is a thin wire made of a metal or an alloy having high resistance and a low melting point.

the fuse blows up when current more than the specified value flows through the circuit the temperature of the fuse increases. this melts the fuse wire and breaks the circuit and hence prevents damage to various electrical appliances.

In electronics and electrical engineering, a fuse is an electrical safety device that operates to provide overcurrent protection of an electrical circuit. Its essential component is a metal wire or strip that melts when too much current flows through it, thereby interrupting the current.

More typically, power failures are confined to the home. The cause could be an electricalshort. Circuit breakers andfuses will audibly "pop" almost immediately if there's a short or loose wire. ... More often, the issue is a blown fuse or tripped circuit caused by excessiveelectrical current flowing through the wires.
