a soft metal core made into a magnet by the passage of electric current through a coil surrounding it

the magnet which is charged by the electricity is called electromagnet.

it's differences:-
in an electromagnet the magnetic field is created through electric current in a wire- wound coil strenghed by a soft iron core. as soon as you turn off the power, the soft iron core loses its magnetisation.

a permanent magnet is made of ferromagnetic material, which is magnetised by a strong magnetic field. the magnetically hard material that us used keeps part of its magnetisation after the external magnetic field is turn off.

the three factors of an electromagnet depends on are:-
the electromagnet is basically a coil of wire, usually with a core metal.

factors then would include : the voltage applied across the coil, how tightly the coil is wound and how many turn of wire, the type of metal of the core (use to concentrate the lines of force.)
