Electromagnet :-

✯An electromagnet is a magnet consisting of long coil of insulated copper wire wrapped around a soft iron core that is magnetised only when electric current is passed through the coil.

✯ The core must be of soft iron because soft iron lose all of its magnetism when current in the coil is switched off.

✯The factors which affect the strength of electromagnet are:-

Number of turns in coil.

Current flowing in coil.

Length of air gap between poles.

Uses of electromagnet:-

✯Magnetic levitation train or Maglev train is run because of electromagnets ,they doesn't have wheels. If floats above it's track by strong magnetic forces produced by computer controlled electromagnets.

✯In hospitals, electromagnets is used to remove particles of eye from patient's eye or in eye surgery.

✯Electromagnets are used to make Microscopes.
