What is an equation of the line that is parallel to y = 3x – 8 and passes through the point (4, –5)?

Line y=3x-8 (let this be line PQ) is parallel to the line suppose AB

Thus,

Slope of PQ(m1) = Slope of AB(m2)

By formula y= mx+ c,

we get the value of m1 as 3 ( from PQ)

Now as per the question the point ( 4, -5) passes through AB thus,


By the equation of a line

(y-y1)/(x1-x2) = m2

(y-(-5))/ (x-4) =3

You get ,

The equation as

y=3x- 17
