an organic compound made by replacing the hydrogen of an acid by an alkyl or other organic group. Many naturally occurring fats and essential oils are esters of fatty acids.

Esters are compounds derived from the combination of a carboxylic acid and alcohol, along with an acid catalyst in a reaction called esterification. Because molecules of water are eliminated in esterification, it is a type of condensation reaction. Smaller esters are soluable in water, but as a general rule, the longer the chain, the less soluable an ester is.

For an example, ethyl methanoate (HCOOCH2CH3) is soluable 10.5 g per 100 g of water, while ethyl propanoate (CH3CH2COOCH2CH3) is soluable 1.7 g per 100 g of water. The boiling points of small esters are comparable to that of ketones.

That's all I've got for now.

it is a chemical compound and it is produced by the reaction between acid and alcohol with the elimination of molecule of water, ethyl acetate. esters are a very important functional group.
