Some compounds are there which have different structures but have same molecular formula , those compounds are called isomers and this property is known as isomerism.
Isomers are mainly of three kinds:
1)chain isomers -same molecular formula but d/f carbon chain skeleton.
Ex:-Pentane:
•n-pentane
•iso-pentane
•neo-pentane
2)position isomers-same molecular formula but d/f position of functional groups.
Ex:- butan-1-ol , butan-2-ol
3)functional isomers-same molecular formula but d/f functional groups.
Ex:- propanal and propanone
